BACNET TOPOLOGY
A typical
BACnet
Network consists of devices connected to physical networks. Each device is a separate
piece of hardware and has a physical connection to the network. Devices are given a unique
Device
Instance Number
which can be a number between 0 and 4194302. BACnet
MS/TP
devices have additional
addressing designations called
MAC
addresses. For most users it is the Device Instance Number which is
used as a reference, but the combination of the Network Number and
MAC
address of an
MS/TP
device
may be configured by a System Integrator to avoid any
MAC
address conflicts on the
EIA-485
network.
