Follow the instructions in this section to load and
unload the RCM safely and properly during the
SLS process.

(optional) Preheat
the clean, empty
RCM to shorten the
build
Warmup
stage in the SLS
system.

Keep the RCM lid on the RCM during
preheating to save energy.

Clean the part bed seal in the SLS system. The
seal is on the bottom of the process chamber
around the square part bed hole. Use a non-
ignition vacuum to clean the seal.

Remove the RCM
lid just before
you’re ready to
start a build.

After removing
the lid, verify that the RCM is still clean
before loading it in the SLS system.
Vacuum up any lid insulation particles you
might see.
After preheating, the RCM
cylinder and piston are both very
hot! To prevent burns, always
wear insulated gloves when
handling a preheated RCM.

To prevent excessive nitrogen
loss from the process chamber
and ensure an inert build
environment, verify that part bed
seal is clean before loading the
RCM in the SLS system.
