Adjusting Configuration Settings
Configuration for the 3C359 NIC is automatic for all
operating systems. When you turn on the computer after
installing the NIC, Plug and Play (PnP) automatically assigns
all resources.
Table B-1 lists the default configuration settings of the
3C359 NIC at shipment.
Ring Speed
The 3C359 NIC operates at a ring speed of either
4 or 16 Mbps. The 3C359 NIC ring speed must match
the speed of the token ring network. The default value
is 16 Mbps.
The auto ring speed detection feature is enabled by default
for all 3C359 NIC drivers. Auto ring speed detection
overrides any manual setting of the ring speed through the
3C359 NIC configuration program. To disable auto ring
speed detection and manually set the ring speed to either
16 Mbps or 4 Mbps, see “Selecting Ring Speed,” in
Chapter 4.
It is recommended that you disable auto ring speed
detection if you are installing the 3C359 NIC in a server.
Otherwise, the server can fail to insert into the ring if it
is the first station to come online and cannot detect a
ring speed.
