Introduction
The Switch 5500G-EI has two separate password systems:
■
Passwords which are used by the Web User Inteface and the CLI and are stored
in the 3comoscfg.cfg file.
For more information on this, refer to the Getting Started Guide which
accompanies your Switch.
■
A password system which protects the bootrom and is stored in the bootrom.
If the password protecting the bootrom is forgotten or lost, a fixed (unit
unique) password can be provided by 3Com Technical Support to bypass the
lost password.
This fixed password recovery mechanism can be disabled within the bootrom
menu. However, if the password recovery mechanism is disabled and the user
configurable bootrom password is lost, there is no recovery mechanism
available. In this instance, the Switch will need to be returned to 3Com for
repair.
The following commands are all executed from the Bootrom directly via the
console.

only password that will be accepted at the prompt is the unit unique password.
