Installing and Uninstalling EFW Software
23
To install the Management Console on a remote system using Java Web Start, follow the
steps below.
1
Copy the contents of the Java Web Start folder from the EFW installation CD to the
Documents area of your Web server.
2
Configure the Web server so that all files with the
.jnlp
file extension are set to the
application/x-java-jnlp-file MIME type.
3
In the
embdfw.jnlp
file, change the code base line to point to the base URL that
contains the
embdfw.jnlp
file.
4
In the
embdfw_help.jnlp
file, change the code base line to point to the base URL that
contains the
embdfw_help.jnlp
file.
Once the Web server is set up, you can Install the Management Console automatically
on any machine by accessing
http://webserver path/embdfw.jnlp
. Accessing this site
automatically downloads and starts the Management Console on that machine. You
are prompted during this process to allow free access to system resources by the
Management Console and Java Web Start, respectively.
Uninstalling EFW
To uninstall the EFW, follow the steps below.
Uninstalling an EFW NIC
To uninstall an EFW NIC, follow the steps below.
1
Ensure the secured computer you want to uninstall is booted and live on the network
that allows it to communicate with the Policy Server.
2
In the Management Console, select the EFW NIC you want to delete.
3
In the Edit menu, select
Delete
. A confirmation window appears informing you that
the EFW NIC will be deleted.
4
Click
OK
. The NIC is removed from the EFW system and a command that disables the
Firewall functionality on the NIC is sent to the NIC.
5
Remove the EFW agent from the machine using the Windows Add/Remove program
(
Start
->
Settings
->
Control Panel
->
Add/Remove Programs
).
NOTE:
Java Web Start must be installed on each machine on which you want to
install EFW through your browser. For information on installing Java Web Start, go
to
www.javasoft.com/products/javawebstart
.
CAUTION:
If you want to remove the entire EFW installation, you must uninstall the
EFW NICs first because the Management Console and Policy Server are required to
uninstall EFW NICs. If you do not need to uninstall EFW NICs, you can skip
“Uninstalling an EFW NIC” below.
NOTE:
After this uninstallation process, the NIC retains the underlying driver and
firmware upgrade provided with EFW. You may restore original factory drivers if
desired. However, attempting to restore the original flash image using the factory
diagnostics tool hangs your system. The EFW flash image does not otherwise
impact the operation of a card downgraded from EFW in this way.
