Overview of EFW Software
The EFW software comprises:
■
Policy Server software
—Software installed on any machine that will be used as a
Policy Server.
■
Management Console software
—Administrative interface software installed on
any machine that will be used to configure the system and view data.
■
EFW firmware
—Firmware loaded onto NICs (3CR990SVR95 and 3CR990SVR97 for
server models, and 3CR990-TX-95 and 3CR990-TX-97 for desktop models).
■
EFW agent
—Software installed on any machine hosting an EFW NIC.
Installing and Uninstalling EFW Software
You must install the Policy Server software on each computer that will be used as a Policy
Server. The installation process involves a standard Windows installation wizard that steps
you through the process.

Select either of the following installation options:
■
Typical Centralized Management
—This option installs the Policy Server software
and Management Console software, if both are supported by your system
configuration.
■
Custom Centralized Management and/or EFW NIC
—This option allows you to
select which specific management components to install, specify where you want
to install them, and specify application port numbers.
This option can also be used to install an EFW NIC. You will need to use only the
EFW NIC installation if you have elected the diskette-keyed process for installing an
EFW NIC on this computer. You must then boot from a keying diskette that you
create using the Management Console. See “Distributing and Installing the EFW
NIC Firmware” on page 30.
NOTE:
When you install the Policy Server software using the Typical installation
option, the Management Console software is automatically installed on the
system as well.
CAUTION:
If you are adding this Policy Server to an existing domain that already
contains two Policy Servers, you must ensure the Policy Servers within that domain
are synchronized before attempting to start a third installed Policy Server and join
it to this domain. For information on synchronizing Policy Servers in a domain, see
“Monitoring Policy Server Status” on page 40.
