P-660RU-Tx v 3 Series Support Note s
10. Using IP Alias
What is IP Alias?
In a typical en vironm ent, a L AN router is required to connect two local networks.
The P-6 60RU -Tx v3 can connect three local networks to the ISP or a rem ote
node; we call this function as
'IP Alias'
. In this case, an internal router is not
required. For e xample, the network m anager can divide the local ne twork into
three networks and connect them to the Internet using P-660RU-Tx v3 's single
user account. See the figure below.
P-660RU-T
x
v3
The P-66 0RU-Tx v3 supports three virtual L AN in terfaces via i ts single physical
Ethernet interface. The first network can be configured in Web Configurator,
Ad van ced Se tup,
Interface Setup -> LAN -> DHCP
. The second and third
networks can be configured in telnet CLI.
There are three internal virtual L AN interfaces for the P-660RU-Tx v3 to route the
packets from /to the three networks correctl y. The y are
e nif0
for the m ajor
network,
enif0:0
for the IP alias 1, and
enif0:1
for the IP alias 2. Therefore, three
routes are created in the P-6 6 0 RU -Tx v3 as shown below when the three
networks are configured. You can edit ip alias routes of P-660RU-Tx v3 by
command in
CLI
:
lan index [index num ber]
Usage: index num ber =1 m ain LAN
2 IP Alias#1
3 IP Alias#2
lan ipaddr <ip address> <Mask>
lan save
If the P-660RU -Tx v3's DHCP is also enabled, the IP pool for the clients can be
any of the three networks.
