YORK INTERNATIONAL
FORM 150.52-NM2 (1001)
Product Description
ing, solid-state overload protection in each phase. The
terminal boxes are raintight. Starting is by either part-
winding or across the line.
Housing
The compressor housing is cast iron, and contains: re-
movable cylinder heads with internal muffling; suction
and discharge service valves; crankcase sightglass and
heater; oil and suction strainers; and internal relief valving
conforming to ASHRAE/ANSI - 15 Standard Safety
Code.
Crankshaft
The crankshaft is ductile (nodular) iron, drilled for posi-
tive oil distribution, with integral counterweights for bal-
ancing. The main bearings are of the insert type, steel-
backed Babbitt. The thrust bearing is bronze.
Cylinder Assemblies
Suction and discharge valves are high-quality stainless
steel. The pistons are aluminum alloy with two piston
rings. The connecting rods are aluminum alloy with in-
tegral bearing surfaces on both ends. Cylinder liners
are removable.
Lubrication
The lubrication is force-fed by a reversible oil pump to
all crankshaft and bearing surfaces through a fine-mesh
stainless steel oil strainer. A magnetic plug is included
in the oil stream. YORK “C” Oil is used for standard
R-22 applications; YORK “E” Oil is used for high am-
bient (>40.6°C [105°F]) R-22 applications.
Capacity Control
Capacity control is provided by microprocessor oper-
ated, solenoid actuated, capacity-control valves.
The electrical solenoid unloading coils are energized to
route high pressure fluid to the compressor blocked suc-
tion unloading devices, which stops the flow of gas to
the cylinders. This method efficiently and effectively
matches the low load conditions as required. Gas flow
is sufficient at all times to cool the motor.
Isolation
Each compressor is mounted on isolator pads to reduce
transmission of vibration to the rest of the unit.
Suction Strainer
A 130-micro suction strainer is installed in the suction
inlet to the motor housing.
EVAPORATOR (Cooler)
The cooler is a high-efficiency, direct-expansion type
cooler with refrigerant in tubes and chilled liquid through
the baffled shell. Independent circuits are provided for
each compressor.
The design working pressure of the shell waterside is
10.3 bar (150 PSIG), and 24 bar (350 PSIG) for the
refrigerant side. It is constructed and tested in accor-
dance with applicable sections of ASME Pressure Ves-
sel Code, Section VIII, Division (1). Waterside is ex-
empt per paragraph U-1, (c), (6).
The water baffles are fabricated from galvanized steel
to resist corrosion. Removable heads allow access to
internally enhanced, seamless copper tubes. Water vent
and drain connections are included.
The cooler is equipped with a microprocessor-controlled
heater for protection to -29°C (-20°F) ambient, and
insulated with 19 mm (3/4") flexible, closed cell foam
(k = 0.26).
