CYLINDER HEAD

INSTALLING THE CYLINDER HEAD
1. Install:
• dowel pins
• cylinder head gasket
2. Install:
• cylinder head
• cylinder head bolts
TIP:
_
• Lubricate the threads of the cylinder head
bolts 1 and 2 and mating surface with
molybdenum disulfide grease.
• Lubricate the threads of the cylinder head
bolts 3 and mating surface with engine oil.
3. Tighten:
• cylinder head bolts
1
: = 135 mm (5.31 in)
• cylinder head bolts
2
: = 145 mm (5.71 in)
• cylinder head bolts
3
• cylinder head bolts

TIP:
_
Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the proper
tightening sequence as shown and torque
them in two stages.

4. Install:
• decompressor assembly
• camshaft sprocket
(onto the camshaft)

a. Install the decompressor assembly onto the
camshaft, and then finger tighten the
decompressor assembly bolts

b. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise.
c. Align the “I” mark

on the AC magneto
rotor with the stationary pointer
b
on the
AC magneto cover.
d. Install the timing chain 2 onto the camshaft
sprocket 3 , then the camshaft sprocket
onto the camshaft, and then finger tighten
the camshaft sprocket bolts
4 .
e. Make sure the “I” mark
c
on the camshaft
sprocket with the stationary pointer

on
the cylinder head.
