For example, you may want to connect a peripheral or make changes to the power management
settings. It will then be necessary to reconfigure your system using the Setup Program so that the
WinBook FX can recognize these changes.[FX 9-3]
WHEN TO USE THE SETUP PROGRAM
You should run the Setup Program under the following conditions. Note that these are only a few
examples and this is not a complete list.
You have set up the computer for the first time and you get a message stating that you
should run the BIOS Setup Program.
You added or removed memory (RAM).
You want to redefine the communication ports to prevent any conflicts
You want to make changes to the Power Management configuration.
You want to change the password or make other changes to the security setup.
ACCESSING THE SETUP PROGRAM
To access the Setup Program: Press the <F2> key after the WinBook FX is through its POST
(Power-On Self Test). You’ll know POST is over after you see the memory test information on
the screen.[FX 9-4]
The top of the Setup screen will display the Menu Bar as shown here.
The Menu Bar
Setup Program options are summarized in Appendix B.
Main:
Use this menu to make changes to the basic system configuration.
Advanced:
Use this menu to enable and make changes to the advanced features available on your
system.
Security:
Use this menu to set passwords for both a User and a Supervisor, and to enable backup
and virus check reminders.
Power
: Use this menu to configure and enable power management savings features.
Exit:
Use this menu to exit the current menu or specify how to exit the Setup Program.
To access the Menu Bar items, you can use the arrow keys to highlight the desired item, then
press <Enter>.
The Legend Bar
The Legend Bar is located at the bottom of the Setup screen. The keys in the Legend Bar allow
you to navigate through the various Setup menus.
