BIOACOUSTIC MONITORING SYSTEMS
Relative triggers (positive level values) are strongly recommended for
recording bats as the trigger will intelligently adapt to the environment.
If WAV file format is specified in the FS command, an individual time-
stamped WAV file will be created for each triggered event during the
scheduled recording period. If WAC compressed file format is specified,
there will be one file created for the recording duration containing all the
triggered events.
Trigger
AUTO
setting behavior:
■
At least one SMM-U1 ultrasonic microphone on either channel: +12 dB
■
No SMM-U1 ultrasonic microphones attached: OFF
NOTE:
Triggers do not work well for most acoustic applications, but this command
must be used to prevent an error.
Off
or
Auto
should be selected (
Auto
will select
Off
as well). This is to maintain cross compatibility of programs from SM3 to SM3BAT.
TRGWIN <window-channel-0> <window-channel-1>
Specifies the maximum recording duration in the absence of a triggering
signal. Values are 0.1 sec – 9.9 sec in 0.1-sec steps.
This command is only relevant if
TRGLVL
is not
OFF
.
This should be set sufficiently long to avoid a recording ending after one
echolocation. If a bat echolocates every 0.5 seconds and this was set to 0.1
seconds, you would get a new trigger with every single echolocation. Three
(3.0) seconds works well for species in most parts of the world. Some
standards describe a
bat pass
by specific recording trigger window. Use this
command with
TRGMAX
to constrain recordings to a specific duration.
TRGMAX <len-channel-0> <len-channel-1>
Specifies the maximum duration for a triggered recording. Values are 0.1
sec – 99.9 sec in 0.1-sec steps, or
OFF
. Some software programs only accept
files under certain durations. Use this command to set a maximum file
duration.
In ZC mode, the maximum file size is 15 seconds even if this command is set
higher.
This command is only relevant if
TRGLVL
is not
OFF
.
NAP <delay>
Specifies how long to wait in the absence of a trigger before going into
power-saving nap mode. Set a value from 1 to 99 minutes in 1 minute
steps, or set to
OFF.
It takes approximately 200 ms to wake from a nap to
start recording. Once out of a nap, the SM3 remains ready and waits for a
trigger for the amount of time specified here. Shorter times yield greater
