5.3 Bus
coupler
5.3.1 PROFIBUS
DP
You must assign a unique station address ADR to each network
device in the PROFIBUS system. The station address is set
with the aid of the 8 pole DIP switch which is attached to the
rear of the bus coupler (outlined in the sketch below). The
address must be set before inserting the bus coupler on the
base plate.
You can assign addresses in the value range 0-126. Switch 8 is
unassigned. The switch position ”ON” corresponds to binary ”1”,
while ”OFF” corresponds to binary ”0”.
Setting the station address
The address is set as follows:
Switches S1 to S8 are assigned values as in the sketch (switch S8 is
reserved).
Switch value
Switch number
You are looking for the position of the DIP switch for the address ADR. The
value X
1
that is greater or smaller than ADR is derived from ADR:
ADR – X
1
= Rest
1
Now extract the largest switch value X
2
from the received remainder Rest
1
,
which is greater or smaller than Rest
1
:
Rest
1
– X
1
= Rest
2
Continue in this way until the remainder disappears. You then have
determined all X
1
switches which you must set to ”ON”.
Example: You are looking for the switch positions for the address 113.
ADR = 113
The next smallest value on the DIP switch is 64 (=2
6
, corresponds to
switch 7).
X
1
= 64 and thus
113 – 64 = 49
X
2
=
32
49 – 32 = 17
X
3
=
16
17 – 16 = 1
X
4
= 1

You must therefore set switches S7, S6, S5 and S1 to ”ON”.
