4. Turn the key to position ”
III
” to start. Release the key as soon as
the engine has started, the key will automatically spring back to the
”
I
” position.
If the engine did not start the key must first be turned
to the ”
0
” position before trying again.
IMPORTANT!
If the starter motor is engaged for its maximum
engagement time (20-30 seconds) let it cool down for five
minutes before trying to start the engine again.
5. Warm up the engine at low speed and low load.
IMPORTANT!
Do not race the engine while it is cold.
Starting using auxiliary batteries
WARNING!
Ensure that the ventilation is good. Batteries
generate oxyhydrogen which is highly flammable and explosive. A
short-circuit, naked flame or spark can cause a large explosion.
Never mix up battery positive and negative terminals. This may
cause sparks and an explosion.
1. Check the auxiliary batteries have the same rated voltage as the
engine’s system voltage.
2. First connect the red jump lead to the discharged battery’s
+
terminal (A)
and then to the auxiliary battery’s
+ terminal (B)
.
3. Then connect the black jump lead to the auxiliary battery
- terminal
(C) and
then to a
spot a short distance from the discharged
batteries
, for example at the main switch on the negative cable or
at the negative cable’s connection
(D)
to the starter motor.
WARNING!
The black jumper cable (-) must under no
circumstances come in contact with the positive connection of the
starter motor.
4. Start the engine and run it at a fast idle for approximately ten
minutes to charge the battery.
WARNING!
Approaching or working on a running engine is
dangerous. Watch out for rotating components and hot surfaces.
Do not touch the connections while trying to start the engine: This
may cause sparks. Do not lean over the batteries.
5. Stop the engine. Remove the jump leads in
exactly
the opposite
order to which you put them on.
