11.7.1 Protocol
to Group
Protocol
-
based VLAN is described in details in this section. The switch supports
Protocol and Ethernet LLC SNAP Protocol.
LLC:
The
Logical Link Control
(LLC)
layer is the upper
sub
-
layer of the
(which is layer 2; just above the
the seven
-
layer
OSI reference model. It provides
mechanisms that make
it possible for several network protocols (IP,
and
Appletalk) to coexist
within a multipoint network and be transported over the same network media. It
can also provide
and
(ARQ) error
management mechanisms.
SNAP:
The
Subnet work Access Protocol
(SNAP) is a mechanism for multiplexing, on
networks using
LLC. More protocols can be distinguished by the 8
-
bit
802.2
(SAP) fields. SNAP supports identifying protocols
type field values. It also supports vendor
-
private protocol identifier
spaces. It is used with
and other
physical network layers, as well as, with non
-
IEEE 802 physical network layers
(e.g.
that use 802.2 LLC).
The user can add new protocols to Group Name (unique for each Group) to map
entries. The user can also view and delete already mapped entries for the selected
stack switch unit switch.
