33. EtCO2 Measurement (Optional)
The Respironics, CAPNOSTAT Mainstream CO
2
and LOFLO Sidestream module can be connect to the
V1407. The CO
2
module provides the function of EtCO2 and the function to measure respiratory CO
2
and
respiration numbers using the small filter line based on a small lumen type filter line. In the Sidestream
CO
2
type, the level is measured through the cannula (non-tubing type) attached to the nose or a sampling
line equipped in the respiratory circuit (tubing type).
WARNING
The EtCO2 measurement utilizes a 50 ml/min sampling rate. The monitor should not be
attached to patients that may become distressed with a 50 ml/min reduced inspiratory volume.
The sampling outlet of the V1407 should be attached to an active scavenging system to
evacuate the anesthetic gases discharged by the patient.
CAUTION
The gas inspiring vacuum pressure (negative pressure) of the gas elimination system should
not exceed the pump outlet standard of the V1407, 1.0 mmHg. Excessive pressure will display
an OCCULSION message and it may damage the V1407 pump. During zeroing, the air
elimination system should be operating.
Sampling lines and filters may become contaminated with patient bodily fluids. Use proper
protocols when handling such lines and accessories.
NOTE
The monitor zeros the CO2 sensor during the power-up self test. Do not allow connection of
sample lines to the CO2 source during the self test period.
Range of Respiration Measuring: 0 – 150 bpm
For the best accuracy, a warm-up of about 20 minutes is required.
