2: Mounting and Configuring the IP Camera

You may use power-over-Ethernet (PoE) to power the camera and establish its Ethernet
connection. The optional PoE kit sold by Verint contains two items: an injector and a power
cord. The connection procedure may vary if you use another PoE kit; refer to the PoE kit
documentation for more information.
To connect the cables for a camera to be embedded in the ceiling:
1. Dismantle the other end of the fall prevention wire by unfastening the mounting screw
at the rear of the camera.
2. Connect the alarm wires (see page 33).
3. Perform the power supply connection, either 12V DC or PoE (see page 22).
4. If the camera uses 12V DC, establish its Ethernet connection by plugging a cable
(straight-through or crossover) between the RJ-45 connector at the end of the network
cable and an Ethernet device.
The crossover cable directly connects the IP camera to a computer; use a
straight-through cable to connect the IP camera to a hub or a switch for integration
with the network.
5. Wrap insulation tape around the cables and wires.
To connect the cables for a camera mounted on the ceiling, wall, or electrical box:
1. Pull the cables coming from the ceiling or wall through the center hole on the outer
case.
You can also run the cables along the wall or ceiling, using the cable hole on the side of
the outer case. Push the plastic part from the inside to clear the hole. Use pliers to
break the smaller part, leaving room for only the cables. Put the plastic part back after
pulling the cables through.
Warning: Never use PoE and 12V DC at the same time. It may damage the device.
