Winterizing
Once ambient temperatures reach close to freezing point, it is important to
take steps above and beyond your regular maintenance routine, to ensure
safe and reliable use of the coring unit. Failure to take appropriate steps will
result in equipment damage, and may result in voiding the manufacturer’s
warranty.

The water system needs to be drained of all water and a glycol additive
with cold weather protection appropriate to the expected temperatures
added. This includes draining all pumps, waterlines, and filters.
(2)
A glycol type anti-freeze should be pumped through the lines to allow
the continued use of the coring equipment during colder months, or if
the equipment is to be stored outside. To do this,
a.
Close the valve on the water intake hose
b.
Open the valve on the winterizing tube.
c.
Insert winterizing tube in a jug of
environmentally friendly antifreeze and turn
on water pump, open the core drum petcock,
run until the antifreeze fills the feed lines and
the pillow block. Close the petcock.
d.
Spray the auxiliary hose until the antifreeze
comes out the nozzle.
e.
Open high pressure petcock and turn on
high-pressure pump until the antifreeze flows
out the end of the hose.

The percentage of glycol to water required will vary, and is dependent
on anticipated low temperatures. Obviously the colder the expected
temperature, the higher the percentage of glycol to water. Very cold
conditions may require pure glycol. Follow the directions and
proportions on the anti-freeze.
