APPENDIX A: TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
PHASEMASTER™ 6 DIRECT ENERGY WELDING CONTROL

Schedule Protection Feature
Weld Schedules 1 through 7 can be protected from unauthorized or inadvertent changes by switching the
PM6’s Schedule Protection to ON. When the Schedule Protection is switched to ON, Schedule 0 is the
only schedule which can be modified. Refer to Chapter 3, Section II, for the Security Procedure to
change Schedule Protection.
Sequence Welding Function
Sequence Welding Function is a term used by the industry to describe the basic welding function since it
provides the solution for the majority of the resistance welding applications. This function is designed
for air actuated weld heads but may be used with manually operated heads. The PM6’s Sequence
Welding Schedules are comprised of the following parameters:
SCHEDULE NUMBER
0 – 7
POLARITY
+, - or ±
SQUEEZE PERIOD
0 – 99 cycles
WELD PERIOD
0.5, 1 – 999 cycles
WELD CURRENT
20 – 99%
HOLD PERIOD
0 – 99 cycles
Squeeze Period
Squeeze Time is measured as the number of cycles of the AC power source, which must elapse after the
1st Level of the Footswitch closes. Squeeze Time can be set from 0 to 99 cycles in 1 cycle increments.
Squeeze Time is meant to provide sufficient time for non- force fired weld heads to close and apply the
required force to the workpiece. Since all Unitek Peco Weld Heads are "force fired," Squeeze Time
should normally be set to 0. Occasionally Squeeze Time is used to provide time for the electrodes to (a)
mechanically break through the oxides on the surface of the workpieces or (b) re- form the workpieces.
The measurement of the Squeeze, Weld and Hold Periods is absolute over the entire range, which means
regardless of the setting the error is ±0 cycles.
Weld Period
Weld Time is measured as the number of cycles of the AC power source, during which welding current
will flow. The Weld Period starts after: the Squeeze Period has expired AND after the 2nd Level of a 2-
Level Footswitch closes AND after the Firing Switch in the Weld Head closes. Weld Time can be set to
either 0.5 (one-half cycle) or from 1 to 999 cycles in 1 cycle increments.
