Chapter 17 Troubleshooting
Description:
The internal rewind unit does not work properly.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Bad backing paper rewind or bad dispensing.
- Check that the paper is threaded correctly as described in the
Installation & Operation manual.
- Check the setup for incorrect media type and feed adjust
settings.
• Rewind unit slips.
- Check if the friction felt inside the rewind unit has become
dried out, see chapter 9.3.
• Either the rewind roller in the print unit or the rewind unit does
not rotate, while the other works.
- Check if any of the two belts from the rewind stepper motor is
broken, is slack, or has come off the pulleys, see chapter 9.2.
• Stepper motor does not run.
- Check if the stepper motor of the print unit runs. If neither runs,
there is either no hardware lock electronic key on the CPU
board or some other error on the CPU board or power supply.
Check as for “Paper feed does not work” in chapter 17.11.
- If neither the rewind unit nor the rewind roller rotate at all but
the print unit stepper motor is OK, the rewind unit stepper
motor could be incorrectly connected (P421), or its drive
circuits, IC424 and IC425 on the CPU board could be
damaged. Check that all pins in the connector of the stepper
motor's cable are fully inserted.
- Check if the problem is in the stepper motor by switching the
cables connected to P420 and P421 on the CPU board. If the
print unit stepper motor works when connected to P421, the
problem is in the stepper motor itself – not in the CPU board.
• Power supply malfunction.
- Check the voltage on test point V40 on the CPU board, see
chapter 15.5. If V40 is not +42V
±
10%, the power supply unit
is probably faulty.
