Chapter 17 Troubleshooting
17.4 CPU Board
Failures
Description:
The power LED is lit, but the printer has one of the following
faults:
- The printer refuses to start up.
- The program execution is halted.
- Stepper motors do not work.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Flash or DRAM SIMMs not properly fitted.
- A SIMM is not fully inserted in its socket. Remove all SIMMs
and fit them back again, making sure they are being firmly held
by the snap-locks.
• Flash SIMM connectors oxidated.
- On early manufactured Flash SIMMs (P/N 1-971605-00), an
inferior soldering mix was used which was vulnerable to
oxidation. Replace SIMMs with P/N 1-971605-01 or later.
• The RISC processor (IC10) is not properly fitted in its socket.
- Turn off the power and press the RISC processor circuit (IC10)
firmly into its socket while applying a counter-pressure from
the back side of the CPU board (be careful so the board does
not break). As a long-term solution, the circuit will be surface-
mounted.
• No hardware lock electronic key fitted in P34.
- If no electronic key is fitted in P34, the printer will still respond
to commands and perform most UBI Fingerprint operations,
but the motors will not run, which prevents any printing. Fit a
correct electronic key in P34.
- If no electronic key is fitted, the printer will respond to a
FORMFEED statement by returning error 1605 “No hard-
ware lock”.
• Defect hardware lock electronic key in P34.
- The electronic key is fitted in P34 has an internal lithium
battery with an expected life of at least 10 years. In case of
power loss or other malfunctions, replace the electronic key.
Dispose of the old one according to local regulations for
environmental protection.
• No Boot Flash SIMM in socket ROM2.
- A Flash SIMM containing a boot sector must be fitted in socket
ROM2, or the printer will not start.
• Startup error.
- Execution of the initial boot sequence can be checked as
described in chapter 15.6. If the execution stops prematurely,
note when it happens and contact our Technical Product
