Chapter 17 Troubleshooting

Description:

The following actions are valid for all communication inter-
faces installed in the printer. Refer also to troubleshooting of
the interface in question.

Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:

• Defective cable between printer and host.

- Check that the interface cable is correctly inserted and that it

is of correct type and configuration.

- Check that any clips or ground screws are properly engaged.
- Inspect cable for physical damage.
- Remove the cable and put it back a few times to rub off possible

oxide.

- Try using another identical cable.

• Defective cable between interface board and CPU board. (This

does not apply to the serial port "uart1:" which is fitted directly
on the CPU board.)
- Check that the cable is correctly inserted and that it is of

correct type.

- Inspect cable for physical damage.
- Remove the cable and put it back a few times to rub off possible

oxide.

- Replace the cable.

• Error in host.

- Try connecting the printer to another host computer.

• Erroneous data.

- Check if the data string contains the correct characters using

the Line Analyzer program included in UBI Shell (see Instal-
lation & Operation manual).

• Electrical disturbances from external units (printers produced

before week 743 only).
- Connect a grounding wire on the power supply unit as

described in Printer Technical Bulletin No. 42/1997.
