2 Overview
2.1 Operating principle
The caRol™ drum winches are designed
to lift, lower and hold a material load secured
to a caRol™ wire rope by manual action on a
crank.
There are two types of caRol™ winches:
- caRol™ type TR winch, with drum driven
by a pair of spur gears, with crank on the
side,
- caRol™ type TS winch, with drum driven
by a pair of worm gears, with crank on the
front.
The caRol™ wire rope is coiled on a drum
and is equipped at its end with a swivel hook
with safety latch (item 1, fig. 3) by which the
material load is fastened.
The caRol™ winch must only be used with
a caRol™ lifting wire rope having the indicated
diameter (see § Specifications) to ensure safe,
efficient use.
The caRol™ drums are equipped with a
lever-actuated release function allowing you
to easily unwind the winch wire rope.
By acting on the crank (item 5, fig. 1 or
item 7, fig. 2), and depending on the direction
of rotation indicated (fig. 4), the material load
is lifted. If the operator turn the crank in the
opposite direction, the material load is lowered.
The crank length can be adjusted by means
of an automatic locking device (item 7, fig. 1).
The caRol™ winches are equipped with an
automatic brake function which stops the load,
when moving up or down, as soon as the
operator stops applying force on the crank.
The brake automatically ensures regular,
