4.7  General Operating Instructions

Make sure all operators have read all the safety
warnings and precautions in this manual and those
in the tractor Operator’s Manual.  Be sure the tractor
is properly counterbalanced with weights before
attempting to lift any load with the bale unroller.
Inspect the bale unroller for potential problems or
damage.  Do not use the bale unroller if it needs
repairs of any type.

Operate the bale unroller only in conditions where you
have clear visibility in daylight or with adequate artifi cial
lighting.  Never operate the bale unroller in darkness
or foggy conditions where you cannot clearly see at
least 300 feet in front and to the sides of the tractor and
bale unroller.  Clear the area of bystanders, especially
small children.  Make sure that you can clearly see and
identify passersby, steep slopes, ditches, drop-off s,
overhead obstructions, power lines, debris, and foreign
objects.  If you are unable to clearly see these type of
items, discontinue operating the bale unroller.

Before using the bale unroller, raise the parking
stand and secure it in the raised position.  Make sure
the hydraulic hoses are undamaged, are properly
supported, and cannot contact the tractor, or drag on
the ground. The bale unroller can be tilted by adjusting
the top link. This adjustment range allows you to vary
the height to best handle your size bales.

Before attempting to move or unroll a bale, remove
any material that has become entangled in the spikes.
Examine the bale and determine which way it is
wrapped.  The bale needs to be gripped so it will unroll
from the bottom as the tractor moves forward.

Avoid operating the tractor in reverse direction when
possible.  Check to make sure there are no persons
behind the bale unroller, and use extreme care when
maneuvering in reverse.

4.8 Lifting

Bale

1.  Position your tractor square with the bale and open

the clamp arms all the way.

2.  Back the tractor until the spikes are close to the

center of the bale.  Bales should be gripped at the
center of the ends of the bale only.

3.  Close the clamp arms until the bale is gripped

securely between the spikes and raise the tractor’s
3-point hitch.

NOTICE

In cold weather, a bale frozen to the ground may
exceed the lifting capacity of the bale unroller.
Damage to the bale unroller may occur. This type of
damage is not covered under the warranty.

4.9  Traveling With a Bale

1.  Stay alert and watch for trees, low hanging limbs,

power lines, and other overhead obstacles while you
are operating.  Use care to avoid hitting these items.

2.  Keep the bale close to the ground while traveling.

3.  Continually scan all sides for pedestrians, animals,

and other traffi  c.

4.  Always drive at a safe speed and slow down when

making turns.  Avoid sudden braking.

5.  Be sure to slow down when traveling over rough or

hilly terrain.

6.  Leave enough clearance when turning to avoid

making contact with obstacles such as buildings,
trees, or fences.

7.  When traveling over a ramp or incline, keep the bale

on the “uphill” side of the tractor.

8.  Avoid making turns on grades, ramps, and inclines.

9.  Raise or lower a bale only when stopped, never

while travelling.

10.  Whenever possible, avoid transporting loads on

public roadways.  If it is necessary to transport on
public roadways, transport in such a way that faster
moving vehicles may pass you safely.  Make sure
that the load does not block the tractor’s SMV sign.

11.  Plan your route to avoid heavy traffi  c.
