5.12. Hot View Imaging
Hot View Imaging provides the ability to watch the splice or taper being formed in real time. When in Filament
Configuration, a pair of neutral density filters (attached to the ring illuminator) are moved in front of the lens to
prevent light from the filament saturating the camera. In CO
2
Laser Configuration, only the low-level luminance of
the heating fibers is visible so the filters are not necessary. The camera shutter speed and gain are set to provide
adequate brightness. Hot View Imaging is enabled in the Power Ramp / Filament Ramp tab of the Splice Properties
page where the user can adjust the focus offset, shutter, and gain.

When Hot View is turned on, the lens tower will not automatically go to the home position before the splice. The
ideal position is for the lens to be in Center View or Top View (depending on the objective in use), thus looking
directly down at the fibers during Hot View. A prompt message can be inserted into the process list to instruct the
user to move the filter in place and to remove the filter after the splice.
