Initialization and Shutdown
To turn on the glass processor workstation, first turn on the main power switch on the cart. This will turn on the
computer automatically. Then press the device power switch on the front panel and turn the laser key to start the
Laser. When the "Laser Fault" indicator turns off on the front panel (approximately 40 seconds after the laser is
turned on), open FFS3 by double clicking the FFS3 shortcut. The system will initialize automatically, or the user can
click the Initialize button on the main toolbar to launch the initialization process and establish communication
between FFS3 and the GPX4000LZ. Vytran recommends running a "Home Process" for all motors; these are found
on the Macro Toolbar.
If using the machine in CO
2
fusion configuration (splice or end-cap), the laser should be warmed up to achieve
thermal stability. Place the included CO
2
laser dump between the output of the 45 degree mirror and the horse-
shoe mirror (see Figure 20) and execute the Laser Warmup process. This will typically run the laser at 5 W for 15
minutes. Remove the CO
2
laser dump when Laser Warmup has completed.

To perform a shutdown of the system, close the FFS3 software window first to ensure that the system saves any
changes made to its settings. Close the cover to prevent any debris or particles falling in either the vacuum holes
of the fiber holding blocks or the furnace assembly opening. After closing the FFS3 software, shut down the
computer using the Windows shut-down button. Next, turn off the Laser key to switch off the laser power. When the
computer is completely shut down, turn off the power using the main power switch on the cart.
