Servo Controller Test

. The following tests are performed:

DSP self-test.

Address-test of the DSP RAM.

Calibration test.

Synthetic test of the Voice Coil Driver and
feedback loop.

Analog Data Path (ADP) Test.

The following tests are

performed:

Recognize test of all ASIC’s involved.

Read/Write Loopback Test. This test runs actual
writing and reading of data frames in different
supported formats. The test will eject/open the
drive's bridge while active to prevent inserted
tape from being damaged.

•

Capstan Motor Controller Ramp Test

. The test checks gentle

and steep ramping functionality for both high and low
tape speed.

10.8.2. Cartridge Manipulation Test

The Cartridge Manipulation (CAM) Test performs Bridge and Clamp movement operations

similar to those performed during Cartridge Load and Eject situations. The test emulates the

Eject operation by moving the Clamp/Cartridge to a “nearly out” position. Because it is not

moved completely out it is possible to load the Cartridge into the Drive again.

The test loads and unloads the cartridge and measures the time of operation and the CAM

motor mean and peak currents. It also measures the CAPSTAN motor mean and peak

currents and execution time. The parameters measured are checked against user defined or

default limits. In addition the status of the three sensors (Cartridge Present, Write Protect 1 &

2) are checked.

The test focus is on motor/mechanical problems forcing operation out of specification.
