5. Checking differential lock operation
(interwheel differential lock)
[NOTICE]

Jack up the vehicle and shift to 4WD High position.
Perform the operations below and check the shift
position with the combination meter.
The differential lock indicator detects operation of
the differential lock directly. Even when the
differential lock switch is OFF, the differential lock is
not released while the indicator is lit. In this case,
move the vehicle backward and forwards to vary the
drive force and release the differential lock.
<Checking operation>
Jack up the vehicle and place the shift lever in
Neutral, shift to 4WD Low position, release the
parking brake, and stop the engine.
• Differential lock ON
Check that the differential lock indicator is lit, and
that opposite wheel on the rear axle rotates in the
same direction when one is turned.
• Differential lock OFF
Check that the differential lock indicator is
extinguished and that opposite wheel on the rear
axle rotates in opposite direction when one is
turned.
* When the propeller shaft is not connected, it is
possible to check that rotating one wheel does
not result in the opposite wheel turning, and that
only the input flange turns.
<Checking alarms>
Rotate the wheels either while the vehicle is
underway, or while it is jacked up.
[NOTICE]
If checking while underway, ensure that the vehicle
is driven in a straight line, and at very low speed.
• Check that the differential lock cannot be
operated at speeds of 5 km/h (3.1 MPH) or more
(check that the indicator is not lit).
• Check that differential lock is automatically
switched OFF and the indicator is extinguished at
5 km/h (3.1 MPH) or more if speed is increased
while differential lock switch is ON and the
indicator is lit.
• Check that the alarm buzzer sounds when the
indicator is lit at speeds of 5 km/h (3.1 MPH) or
more (if differential lock is not released due to
meshing of the gears).
