Removing and Installing the Backplane
The F414IS4 backplane is located under the hard drives on the front left side of each node
as shown in Figure 6-5. Although backplane failure rarely occurs, in the event of a backplane
failure, follow the instructions below.
Removing the Backplane
Removing the Backplane from the Node
1. Power down the node with the operating system and remove the cord from the rear of
the power supply as described in Section 3-1. Remove the node from the chassis and
remove the node cover as described previously in this section.
2. Remove the the 3.5" hard drive trays from the chassis and release them as described
previously.
3. Remove the three screws securing the backplane and set them aside for later use.
4. Lift the backplane up and out of the node.
5. Install a replacement backplane into the chassis and secure with the screws previously
set aside.

(Note: HDD trays shown empty for clarity, most will have HDDs installed)
6.
Secure the fixed 3.5" hard drives and their trays back in the chassis as described
previously.
7. Replace the node cover, return the node to its bay in the chassis, plug the power cord
into the rear of the power supply and power up the node.
