Noncombustible material (minimum requirements) with wood mantel
or other combustible projections:
To install the firebox with a wood
mantel, shelf or other combustible projection above firebox opening.
Refer to
Figure 4.
Minimum clearance requirements include any projections such as
shelves, window sills, mantels, etc. above the appliance.
If your mantel profile is unsafe, you may either:
• Raise the mantel to an acceptable
height, or
• Remove the mantel.
Floor clearance:
These fireplaces may sit directly on a combustible surface.
The appliance should be mounted on a fully supported base extending
the full width and depth of the unit. The appliance may be located on or
near conventional construction materials. However,
if installed on combustible materials, such as carpeting, vinyl tile, etc., a
metal or wood barrier covering the entire bottom surface must be used.

EXAMPLE: If you choose to install a mantel that projects 5", you will need to
install it so that the bottom of the mantel and trim is approximately 13" or more
above Firebox opening (see coordinate in shaded area above).

The hood must be in place to be in compliance with
the clearances specified in Figure 4. Do not remove or
replace hood, only use hood supplied for these fireboxes
(see Page 17). Do not use any hood which may be pro-
vided with the decorative type Vent-Free room heater.
