the system to continue operating should any one of the power supplies fail. Power
supplies in a redundant configuration are hot-swappable, so that you can remove
and replace a faulty power supply without shutting down the operating system or
turning off the system power. For more information about the power supplies, see
“About Power Supplies” on page 73.
The Sun Fire 880 server can be installed in any standard Electronic Industries
Association (EIA) 310-compliant 19-inch (48.3 cm) rack with at least 17 rack units
(29.8 inches, 75.6 cm) of available vertical mounting space and sufficient
load-bearing capacity. An optional rackmounting kit is available for installing the
server into racks with depths ranging from 32 inches (81.3 cm) to 36 inches (91.4 cm).
Instructions for rackmounting the server are supplied with the rackmounting kit.
System reliability, availability, and serviceability are enhanced by features that
