Fully automatic operation
Prepamatic-2 takes care of the en tire
preparation proc ess, from plane grind-
ing to fi nal pol ish ing - including clean-
ing and drying - with out op er a tor at-
tendance.
A graphic L.C. display on the op er at ing
panel shows all rel e vant in for ma tion
and allows the op er a tor to select a
meth od. The op er a tor then mounts
the grind ing and pol ish ing discs spec-
ifi ed on the dis play, inserts the spec i -
mens - and presses Start. When this is
done, he may attend to other jobs, e.g.
microscopy - re turn ing to the ma chine
only to re move the fi n ished, cleaned
and dried spec i mens.
Sturdy construction for
vibration-free preparation
Prepamatic-2 is a fl oor model, built on
a strong, welded steel frame. On the
carousel fi ve grind ing and/or pol ish ing
sta tions and one, com plete ly en cap su -
lat ed, clean ing sta tion are mount ed.
Depending on the ac tu al prep a ra tion
step, the car ou sel turns and the re-
spec tive disc or clean ing sta tion is po-
si tioned un der neath the spec i men
mov er. This stur dy con struc tion al-
lows for the prep a ra tion of all ma te ri als

Use of grinding stone -
high material removal
For the prep a ra tion of most fer rous
metals a grind ing stone will allow for
the fast est pos si ble plane grind ing.
The grind ing stone is com plete ly en-
cap su lat ed, thus al low ing for a speed
of 1,000 rpm. This high speed results
in high ma te ri al re mov al rates and
short grind ing times.
The necessary dressing of the stone is
carried out au to mat i cal ly prior to the
grind ing step.
Unsurpassed reproducibility
As all prep a ra tion pa ram e ters are con-
trol led by the mi cro proc es sor the same
re sults will be ob tained time after time.
Thus chang es in the struc ture can be
re lat ed to ac tu al chang es dur ing the
pro duc tion of the ma te ri al in stead of
pos si ble var i a tions in the prep a ra tion
method.
Preparation of single specimens and
specimens clamped in holders
With easy ex change a ble heads both
sin gle spec i mens and spec i men hold-
ers can be pre pared.
For the oc ca sion al spec i men or to re-
peat just the fi nal pol ish ing step, sin-
gle spec i men mode is the most ad van -
ta geous. There is no rea son to waste
consumables by pre par ing “dum my”
spec i mens be cause a spec i men hold er
has to be fi lled.
On the other hand, if 3 or 6 spec i mens
have to be pre pared, the use of a spec-
i men holder pro vides sev er al ad van -
tag es. Han dling is fa cil i tat ed, as all
spec i mens are treat ed as a sin gle one.
Ad di tion al ly, the ac cu ra cy when meas-
ur ing the re mov al rate is im proved and
over all fl atness of the spec i mens is
better.
Peristaltic pumps for dosing of
suspensions and lubricant
For the accurate dosing of both dia-
mond sus pen sions, ox ide pol ish ing
suspensions and lu bri cants, peristaltic
pumps are used. They not only supply
the cor rect amount ex act ly where it is
need ed, they also completely avoid the
cre a tion of aerosols. Thus the choice
of peristaltic pumps is also very en vi -
ron men tal ly friend ly.
