Controlled material removal
For the examination of elec tron ic com-
ponents or parts for failure anal y sis the
defi ned re mov al of ma te ri al is crucial.
On Prepamatic-2 an ad vanced strain
gauge is used to very ac cu rate ly con-
trol the material remov al. This allows
for target prep a ra tion in the cases
men tioned above, but it can also be
used to ensure that enough ma te ri al
has been re moved, i.e. scratch es and
de formed ma te ri al introduced in the
pre ced ing step.
This system saves time and consum-
ables, and it pre vents an entire prep a -
ra tion cy cle from be ing performed on
an in ad e quate ly ground spec i men.
Metalog Guide Methods included
The Metalog Guide Methods, cov er ing
the preparation of most ma te ri als are
included in the soft ware of Prepama-
tic-2.
When new materials have to be pre-
pared a suit a ble meth od can eas i ly be
found, and if nec es sary changed and
saved for fu ture use. Thus, even op-
er a tors with lim it ed prep a ra tion ex pe -
ri ence can pre pare all kinds of ma te -

each con tain ing ten methods.
Low cost per sample
Because of the fully au to mat ic prep a -
ra tion it is possible to op timise each
method and to get the nec es sary qual-
ity in the short est possible time. This,
to geth er with the au to mat ic dos ing of
consumables re sults in very low, con-
sistent costs per pre pared spec i men.

Easy programming
To establish a new prep a ra tion meth-
od the user sim ply trans fers one of the
Metalog Guide meth ods to an “open
meth od” and chang es the nec es sary
pa ram e ters. All meth ods can be used
for the prep a ra tion of 1, 2 or 3 spec i -
mens. The nec es sary pa ram e ters are
re cal cu lat ed au to mat i cal ly if a dif fer ent
no. of spec i mens have to be pre pared.
Process control
Once a pre paration pro gram has been
se lect ed and Start has been pres sed,
Prepamatic-2 car ries out all nec es sary
tasks. How ev er, the user has several
ad di tion al pos si bil i ties to mon i tor the
prep a ra tion of his spec i mens. When
de vel op ing new meth ods, the prep a -
ra tion can au to mat i cal ly be stopped
after a pre-se lect ed step to check
the quality of the spec i men, dif fer ent
clean ing pro grams can be se lect ed and
steps can be omit ted or re peat ed. A
con trol pro gram pre vents in cor rect
op er a tion.
Wide range of specimen mover plates
and holders
A wide range of different spec i men
mover plates for spec i mens 25, 30,
40 and 50 mm, 1", 1¼" and 1½" di a-
m e ter is avail a ble. In ad di tion, spec-
i men hold ers for 3 or 6 mount ed or un-
mount ed spec i mens and fi ve small fi x-
tures for un mount ed spec i mens are
avail a ble, mak ing it pos si ble to pre pare
up to nine spec i mens at a time.
Safety
Prepamatic-2 is pro vid ed with all nec-
es sary safe ty guards and com plies
with the re quirements for ma chine
tools (IEC 204, EN60204 -1).
