4.2
Operating conditions
The brake must as a rule only be used as a retaining brake, i.e., the switching off process, as is also the case
for the switching on, must only be performed when stationary (without load). With the brake released, a speed
or rotary motion can occur, the maximum permissible value for which can be obtained from the dimensional
drawing.

Environment
Industrial environment: clean, dry, frost-free indoor rooms, free of noxious sub-
stances.
Temperature range
-30 °C to +100 °C, as long as there is no information specified on the dimension-
al drawing. Otherwise, the information on the dimensional drawing must be ob-
served.
Pressure line connection
When the brake is closed (closed/engaged through spring pressure) no residual
pressure (pÜ = 0 bar) can remain on the pressure line connection, see sec-
tion 5.3.1. Exceptions are specified in the dimensional drawing.
Pressurised medium
In general, Stromag recommends using mineral oils to release the brake in ac-
cordance with DIN 51524 within an ISO viscosity range from ISO VG 15 to ISO
VG 100 in accordance with ISO 3448. Please consult Stromag’s Customer Care
before using hydraulic fluid to release the brake. In addition, please refer to the
information in the dimensional drawing if necessary.
Level of purity of the hydraulic fluid
The following purity levels must be observed for operation of this product:
Operating pressure ≤ 160 bar 20/18/15 according to ISO 4406
Operating pressure > 160 bar 19/17/14 according to ISO 4406
Level of purity of the compressed air
The following purity levels must be observed for operation of this product: 5-3-5
DIN ISO 8573-1
Disc chamber (wet operation)
If the brake is to be used in wet operation, please contact Stromag’s Customer
Care first to determine the appropriate lubricant.
Disc chamber (dry operation)
If the brake is used in dry operation, no oil or grease may appear on the discs.
Operating pressure
see dimensional drawing.
Mounting position
Horizontal /
In the case of a vertical mounting position, special measures are required.
Please contact Stromag’s customer Care for more details.
