CHAPTER ELEVEN
SECTION 11.3
WIRING THE CONNECTOR JUNCTION BOX (continued)
WIRING TEST (continued)
21. The antenna switch box should now show a dead short between the “IN” connector center pin and
the “OUT2”connector center pin. There should be an open circuit between “IN” and “OUT1” and
“OUT3”.
22. Remove the control cable from the back of the controller.
23. This concludes the test and verifies the antenna is wired correctly.
80m OPTION:
If you this option remove the control cable and set the controller to any frequency in the 80m band.
Wait for tuning to cease.
Connect control cable and verify a dead short circuit between the center pin of the SO-239 labeled “IN”
and the two pins of the terminal strip on the PCB board in the 80 m box labeled “80m Dipole” (probe
the tops of the screws on the green terminal strip). The center pin of the “IN” connector will still show
a dead short to center pin of the “OUT” connector, this is normal the balun makes it look like a dead
short at DC, but not at RF frequencies.
Remove the control cable. Set controller frequency to 40m and wait for tuning to cease.
Verify there is now an open circuit between the center pin of the “IN” connector and the PCB mounted
terminal strip (labeled 80m Dipole) pins.
Verify there is a dead short between the center pin of the “IN” connector and the “OUT” connector
center pin.
Remove control cable and then set controller to 6m. Wait for tuning to stop and the plug the control
cable back in and hit the retract button. The antenna will now be retracted and ready to be installed.
