Before you start editing
You can edit an MD only when:
• The MD is not record-protected.
• The MD playback mode is normal play.
Be sure to check the following before starting
editing:

Check that the MD is not record-
protected.
Slide close the tab at the side of the MD
to cover the hole (see page 39). If the MD
is record-protected, you cannot edit the
MD.

Press CONTINUE on the MD deck
and select normal play.
You can edit MDs only during normal
play.
You cannot edit MDs during Shuffle or
Program Play.
After editing

and eject the MD, or press
1/u
(power) to turn off the system.
“TOC Writing” flashes. The MD Table of
Contents (TOC) is updated and editing is
completed.
Note
MD editing is completed when the TOC is updated.
If you pull out the power cord before the TOC is
updated, the edited contents are not written to the
MD.
The TOC is updated when you do the following
operations. Therefore, be sure to do these operations
before you pull out the power cord.

(power) to turn off the system.
You can edit recorded MDs by moving and
erasing tracks, etc. By editing the recorded
tracks, you can create original MD albums
without dubbing between MDs.
Editing functions
• Name — Labeling MDs and tracks
You can create titles (names) for your
recorded MDs and tracks using alphabet
letters (upper and lower cases), numbers
and some symbols.
• Erase — Erasing recordings
You can erase unwanted tracks.
• Move — Moving recorded tracks
You can freely change the order of the
recorded tracks.
• Divide — Adding track numbers to
multiple tracks that are recorded as
one track
When you divide a track, this function
adds a track number at the start of the new
track.
You can also mark track numbers in the
middle of a track, letting you easily find
your favorite phrases.
• Combine — Combining recorded
tracks
This function erases the blank space
between two tracks and join them into a
single track.
This function also lets you join separated
tracks such as the tracks 1 and 4.
• Undo — Undoing the last edit
If you erase the wrong track or change the
track order incorrectly, this function lets
you cancel the last edit and restore the
tracks and track order to the condition
before the edit.
