STEP 6 — BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY MODE
Backward Compatibility enables certain new devices to be programmed
with the functionality of a previous device. To allow a device to be back-
ward compatible, the FPI-32 modifies the programmed device's
Device
ID.
Backward Compatibility mode is used to replace the
1=MXL
and
2=MXL
available on older versions of the Programmer/Tester.
The Programmer/Tester displays the following message:
CHANGE DEVICE ID
Y/N?
Respond:
YES
- The Programmer/Tester enters Step 7.
NO
- The Programmer/Tester enters Step 8.
C
- The Programmer/Tester enters Step 8.
STEP 7 — CHANGING THE DEVICE ID
The Programmer/Tester will next determine the specific device installed.
After the device type is established, the Programmer/Tester will display
the following:
PLEASE WAIT...
@@@@
**********?
Where:
@@@@ = The actual device installed in the Programmer/Tester.
********** = The current device which the actual inserted device can
emulate.
Respond:
YES
- The Programmer/Tester records the new device ID and then
enters Step 8.
NO
- The Programmer/Tester will cycle through the possible devices
which the actual inserted device can emulate (displayed on
the bottom line of the display).
C
- The Programmer/Tester enters Step 8 without updating the ID.
