Dismantling the ZMS 3 and ZMS 4 pumps
4.2.1 The standard shaft seal (see Fig.3.a) consists of a carbon ring with
double sealing lip, stainless steel ring and spring. Shim and deflector
come with the pump.
4.2.2 After disconnection of the inlet and discharge pipes from the pump
the motor shroud and the front plate of the pump housing are
removed, as described in para. 3.4.
The screw (pos. 3, Fig. 3.b) is removed and the impeller can be
removed. Screw (pos. 3) has a counter clockwise thread.
4.2.3 The spring and spacer ring are removed (see Fig. 3.a). The key of the
motor shaft is removed and the shaft seal is removed by means of
the sleeve (see spare part drawing pos. 14). The sleeve is pushed
over the motor shaft. The shaft is gently pulled over the sleeve and
the sleeve is removed.
4.2.4 If signs of wear are apparent on the carbon and steel rings (Fig. 3.a)
both parts should be replaced.
4.2.5 When replacing the steel seal ring, which is pressed into the pump
housing (pos. 4, Fig. 3.b) the cover, impeller, and shaft seal, as well
as the motor are removed. The steel ring is pressed out of the pump
housing and a new ring is pressed into place.
Use a plastic mandrel to press the steel ring into position. The ring
should be placed at right angles to the shaft which will be the case
when it is firmly placed against the rear plate.
4.3
Assembling the ZMS 3 and ZMS 4 pumps
4.3.1 The pump is assembled in reverse order to the procedure in
para. 4.2.
4.3.2 The motor with deflector is fixed to the pump housing.
4.3.3 The shaft seal is gently placed on the motor shaft by means of the
sleeve. The shim is put on and afterwards the key is placed in the
shaft keyway.
4.3.4 The spring (see Fig. 3.a) is placed over the sealing lip taking care
that the driving tang of the spring is placed in the hole of the collar of
the sealing lip.
4.3.5 When fitting the impeller make sure that the driving tang of the spring
is placed in the milled groove of the impeller hub. The screw (pos. 3
Fig. 3.b) is put in and tightened.
4.3.6 Check that the rubber lining along the edge of the pump housing is in
place. Fix and tighten the cover of the pump housing.
4.3.7 The motor shroud is fitted and secured according to instructions,
see para. 3.8.3. The pump is ready for use. See para. 3.5 - 3.8.
