Europe uses a detailed category system with 28 vehicle classes. Vehicles are identified by
comparing them against the vehicle shape. The class representing the closest match of
the vehicle shape is allocated to the vehicle.
Fig. 27: Vehicle classes in the European category system
The categories can be grouped together into various
output category systems
, such as
Swiss10
with 10 categories,
TLS 8+1
with 8 categories,
TLS 5+1
with 5 categories, and
TLS 2+0
with 2 categories. Other groupings are also possible.
With the
output category system
, vehicles are no longer identified on the basis of the
individual vehicle classes within the category system. Instead, they are identified on the
basis of classification groups. For example, the
TLS 2+0
output category system includes
two classification groups:
Car or similar
and
Truck or similar
.
Vehicles are classified on the basis of the 3D point cloud without considering the total
permissible weight.
Extreme weather situations such as heavy rain or snowstorms may affect the accuracy of
output data.
Counting and classification precision of the TIC102 / TIC502 system functions
The system is not affected by weather conditions such as fog, rain, and snow. It works in
accordance with the technical specifications listed in the annex.
•
The typical counting accuracy is > 99.8% (for the TIC102) and
> 99.85% (for the TIC502)
•
The typical classification accuracy is 98% for classification pursuant to the TLS 8+1
standard for normal traffic.
Extreme weather situations such as heavy rain or snowstorms may affect the accuracy of
output data.
Counting and classification precision of the TIC501 system function
The TIC501 is not affected by weather conditions such as fog, rain, and snow. It works in
accordance with the technical specifications listed in the annex.
•
The typical counting accuracy is > 99.8%.
•
The typical classification accuracy is 96.0% for classification pursuant to the TLS 8+1
standard for normal traffic (for overhead mounting and mounting of two lanes).
The terms for counting accuracy and classification precision are explained in the appendix
(see chapter
9.4 Terminology relating to statistical measurement accuracy
