6.1 General
Your Scout is equipped with 120 volt AC and 12
volt DC electrical systems. The AC system can
draw current from one of two sources, either shore
power outlets at dockside or the generator. The
DC system draws current from onboard batteries.
Your boat and engine charging system is designed
for 12 volt, absorbed glass mat (AGM) or wet cell
marine batteries. They will require similar main-
tenance as those found in automobiles.
All wires in the electrical systems are color coded
to make identifying circuits easier. Wiring sche-
matics have been included with this manual to aid
in following an individual circuit.
6.2 12 volt DC System Overview
The 12 volt system is a fairly standard marine
system. There are four or five batteries, one for
each engine and one for the house, generator and
electronics. If your boat is equipped with an op-
tional bow thruster, there will also be a dedicated
battery to power the thruster. The house battery is
connected to the engine auxiliary charging circuits.
The engine and house batteries are located in bat-
tery boxes on each side of the electrical systems
room companionway below the helm seats/leaning
post. The battery for the optional bow thruster
is mounted in a storage compartment below the
bow table and forward cockpit sole.
Triple engine battery systems are controlled by
four battery switches, one for each engine and
one for the house 12 volt accessories, generator
and electronics. Quad engine battery systems are
controlled by five battery switches, one for each
engine and one for the house 12 volt accessories,
generator and electronics. The engine and house
batteries are charged by the engines or the bat-
tery chargers when connected to shore power or
when the generator is operating.
The optional bow thruster battery is paralleled to
one of the engine batteries and is also charged
by the engines or the battery charger. The bow
thruster unit is located in the forward bilge com-
partment below the cabin berth. It is controlled
by a main switch that is activated automatically
when the bow thruster is energized. The main
switch also provides overload circuit protection
for the bow thruster. It is accessed through a
hatch below the forward center berth cushion in
the cabin.
Most 12 volt power is distributed to the 12 volt
accessories through individual circuit breakers
located in the cabin DC panel or by fuses in the
CZone control output modules in the electrical
systems room. All circuit breakers and fuses are
labeled with the name of the circuit they protect.
Main circuit breakers in the battery switch panel
protect the primary circuits for the CZone control
modules, continuous (24 hour) power, windlass,
hardtop switch panel, electronics, stereo ampli-
fiers, and the main 12 volt power supply. Other
main breakers in the panel protect the battery
charger circuits for the batteries and additional
accessories. The “Push to reset” circuit breakers
in the panel protect the circuits for the trim tab
pumps and switches. Most 12 volt accessories are
operated directly by switches in the helm electron-
ics panels, hardtop switch panel or switches in the
cabin. Other accessories are controlled directly
with the CZone control feature.
Boats equipped with quad or triple Yamaha en-
gines and electronic steering will also be equipped
with main circuit breakers mounted in electrical
