Test Features
The following features assist you during relay testing.

Low-Level
Test Interface
The SEL-587Z has a low-level test interface between the calibrated input
module and the separately calibrated processing module. You test the relay in
either of two ways:
By applying ac signals to the relay inputs (conventional
method)
By applying low-magnitude ac voltage signals to the low-level
test interface
Access the test interface by removing the relay front panel.

the ribbon cable between the two modules to access the outputs of the input
module and the inputs to the processing module (relay main board).
You can test the relay processing module using signals from the SEL-4000
Relay Test System. Never apply voltage signals greater than 6.2 V peak-to-
peak to the low-level test interface.

Command/Feature
Description
METER
The
METER
command shows the currents and voltages
presented to the relay in primary values, referenced to IA.
Compare these quantities against other devices of known
accuracy.
EVENT
The relay generates an event report in response to faults
or disturbances. Each report contains current and voltage
information, relay element states, and input/output contact
information. If you question the relay response or your test
method, use the
EVENT
command to display detailed infor-
mation.
TARGET
Use the
TARGET n
command to view the state of relay
control inputs, relay outputs, and relay elements individually
during a test.
SER
Use the Sequential Events Recorder (SER) for timing tests by
setting the SER trigger settings (SER1, SER2, or SER3) to
trigger for specific elements asserting or deasserting. View the
SER with the
SER
command.
Programmable Outputs
Use programmable outputs to isolate individual relay ele-
ments. Refer to the
SET
command.
