The SEL-587Z is equipped with SEL
OGIC®
control equations that allow you
to design a custom tripping scheme. SEL
OGIC
control equation functions
include timers, local and remote bits, tripping, event report triggering, and
relay output contact control. An example of this flexibility is shown in
, where OUT1 is set to operate the 86 lockout relay, OUT2 is set to
report a CT open circuit, and OUT3 reports a bus zone alarm.

Bus Protection (simplified).
Applying the relay as transformer protection,
shows the same
contacts configured for different functions. Now output contacts OUT1 and
OUT2 are set to trip the high- and low-voltage breakers, and OUT3 and OUT4
are set to close the high- and low-voltage breakers. Set input IN1 to trip both
high- and low-voltage breakers simultaneously in response to an external trip
command.
