6-5 VHF antenna installation
VHF
antenna
play
roles
in
stable
communication
of
AIS-50N.
Several
important points in antenna installation are
as follows.
►
Normally VHF antenna should be installed
at high position of vessel. It should be
separated from other equipments as
much as possible.
►
VHF antenna should be separated from
the structure of conductive materials. It
should be laid at higher place by 2M at
least. Besides, it should not be near big
vertical objects. Also, it should have 360-
degree horizontal view.
►
VHF antenna should be separated from
high pressure energy sources, such as
radars, other transmitting radars,
transmitting radio antenna by 2M at least.
Also, it should be out of transmitting
beam.
►
At same height more than one antenna
should not be installed. If VHF antenna is
at the same height with other antennas,
distance between antennas should be 2M
at least.
VHF antenna installation is done as follows.
►
Locate antenna installing bracket at
structurally solid position.
►
Install antenna on antenna mount-make
coaxial cable from antenna reach the body
position. In order to use high quality RG-8U
coaxial cable & reduce the drop of electric
current, keep the length of cables as short
as possible.
►
Give some space to the cable length toward
body direction.
►
Stick connector to the end of coaxial cable.
►
Connecting cable to body, use BNC
connector.
Please check the
installation distance
between VHF antenna &
other equipments.

6-6 GPS antenna
Selecting an antenna
Fit one of these GPS antennas:
6-6-1 GPS antenna of TNC type
Position, where GPS antenna is installed,
affects GPS receiving rate. Connector of
connecting device is TNC type.
Antenna installation
Installation should be done where sky is open
360-degree. Proper distance should be kept
between VHF antenna & compass.
For detailed installation method, please refer
to SAMYUNG ENC or agencies.

6-6-2 The antenna using NMEA
The chart plotter can receive the GPS data
from the compatible device (NMEA). The
chart plotter can connect several devices to
an external GPS.
• An optional differential beacon DGPS
antenna to give enhanced accuracy within
range of land based differential beacons in
areas where WAAS or EGNOS are not
available. Such a DGPS antenna has both a
GPS receiver and a beacon receiver, and it
automatically applies the beacon correction
to the GPS position.
To set the DGPS options(None or
WAAS/EGNOS):
Connect the GPS directly to the input. Set the
option. The new setting will be displayed if it
was successfully applied.
Note:
The chart plotter can apply the WAAS and
EGNOS DGPS corrections to any GPS
antenna.
