TES9 Software User Manual (Iss. 04)
Captioning Module • 5–5
Input Mode
This field indicates how the data received by the encoder is to be interpreted. If set to Caption
Server, then the encoder accepts the set of commands described in the “
” on page 10-1. If set to Field Marked, then the encoder accepts caption data in the
format generated by the Caption Data Output feature of the TES9. When using this mode, the
Output Protocol on the TES9 must be set to Field Marked.
Stream Mapping
When you enable and disable the captioning ports the setup software makes what it believes to be
the appropriate mappings of caption streams. Stream Mapping can be used to customize these
default settings but requires a detailed knowledge of captioning practices.
Caption Stream Mapping from Input Ports Menu
The Stream Mapping dialog shows the 608 caption streams arriving through the captioning ports
on the bottom and the caption streams encoded into the video on the top. A blue line connecting
boxes indicates that the caption command stream is mapped to the caption encode stream. To
make a connection click on a box and then click on the box that you wish to connect it to.
Double-click on a box to remove all connections to that box.
External Modem
This check box indicates that an external modem is connected to the serial port. When the TES9
is powered on, or restarted using the Save and Exit command, the TES9 sends commands to the
modem to put it into Auto Answer mode. Therefore, when powering on the TES9 and the modem,
the modem should be powered on first. If the modem is power-cycled or reset, then the TES9
must be power-cycled, or restarted by running TES9Set and clicking on Save and Exit.
Init
This field specifies the string that is to be sent to the modem before the commands to put it into
Auto Answer mode. In most cases this field may be left blank, since the TES9 sends the required
commands to the modem. If this field is specified, then it should be the command to reset the
modem and put it into a known state, and must begin with the sequence “AT”, which is the prefix
for most modem commands.
Caution
— The setup software will make appropriate caption stream mappings for the
port usage that you set. Changing the mappings manually can have undesirable side
effects. It is possible to cause captions to be lost or encoded into an inappropriate place.
