PRESSURE-TO-
ELECTRICAL VALIDATION
PROCEDURES
This section describes the transmitter validation procedures in which
the validator outputs a pressure to a transmitter and displays the
results in either milliamps (current, or I) or volts (V). These are the
most common validation procedures done by the Model P330 Pressure
Validator.
NOTE
The first time the validator is turned on upon shipment from the
manufacturer, it is in Basic task mode. You must change the task mode
to enter the
SETUP
menu.
Basic Mode
Basic mode provides a simple way to perform the most common
transmitter validation procedures: pressure-to-voltage (P-V),and
pressure-to-current (P-I). The Basic mode permits either a system
power source or a low-voltage validator power source for the pressure-
to-voltage validation.
NOTE
In Basic mode, you cannot set input or output parameters, use the
STORE
or
RECALL
keys, or enter the
SETUP
menu. If you want to apply
any of these special tasks while doing a P-I or P-V test, see P-I Mode or
P-V Mode in this section.
Basic Task Mode Validation Procedure
This procedure is a generic set of steps for doing three different types of
validations strictly from the Basic mode.
1. Ensure that the validator is turned off.
2. Open the release valve on the validator.
3. Set the pressure/vacuum knob to + or – as required.
4. Connect the transmitter to the reference pressure port on the
validator using a

/

–27 NPT coupling device and a pneumatic
hose.
5. Connect the test leads to the validator and the transmitter being
tested, as shown in one of three diagrams. Each diagram is based
on the three most common validations performed.
• To connect leads for pressure-to-current with an external source
of power, refer to Figure 5-1.
• To connect leads for pressure-to-voltage using a 10 V excitation
from the validator, refer to Figure 5-3.
• To connect leads for pressure-to-voltage with an external source
of power, refer to Figure 5-4.
6. Turn on the validator, and allow it to go through its self-test
process (about 15 seconds).
7. Press the
TASK
key, then use the arrow keys to highlight
BASIC
mode (if the validator is not in Basic mode already). Press
ENTER
.
8. Press
F1
, if necessary, to change the input mode (i.e., to voltage or
current).
See Safety Messages on page 5-1 and 5-2 for complete warning information.
