
Port Forwarding
Port forwarding, or port mapping is a network application that redirects a
communication request from one address and port number combination to
another while the packets are traversing a network gateway, such as a
router or firewall.
A port forwarding rule contains protocol, source IP/port, and destination
IP/port. Up to 20 rules can be set up in the router.
Protocol:
the IP protocol allowed for the port forwarding rule. Can be
TCP, UDP, or both.
Source IP Address:
the source IP address of the communication request.
Can be any or a specific IP address.
Source Port:
the port number used in the communication request from
the source.
Destination IP Address:
the local destination for the communication
request to be redirected to.
Destination Port:
the destination port number for the communication
request to be redirected to.
