1.3 System Operation
The projector unit of the sonar head assembly transmits a pulse of acoustic energy,
which travels through the water medium and is reflected by the seafloor or any objects in
its path. The reflected signal is received by the receiver unit of the sonar head assembly,
digitized by internal electronics, and sent via the LCU to the topside 7125 processor for
beamforming and processing. The processor generates the video displayed on the
monitor and formats a digital output to be used by a peripheral bathymetric data
processing system (or the optional PDS2000 DAC preinstalled on the 7125 processor)
while functioning as the control interface between the operator and the sonar system.
2
It is possible to connect four monitors to the processor.
