to display the WSDB (TV Whitespaces Database) status
screen. This screen is displayed only if WSDB support is enabled by the options key
(
) (US only).
To operate in the TV Whitespaces frequency range, each RDL-3000 Ellipse sector
controller and subscriber must be able to contact and register with the WSDB database
server. The server URL is programmed into the Ellipse, but a DNS server IP address
must be provided (see Configuration-> System). Registration requires the operator to
complete the WSDB registration information form (see Configuration-> WSDB Control)
to provide contact and location information.
This screen displays the status of the WSDB registration process. The Ellipse is not
allowed to transmit on any channels before registering with the WSDB database and
obtaining a list of available channels or after the expiry time has elapsed.
The Ellipse may only transmit on channels indicated as 'available' by the WSDB
database. In congested areas, the number of available channels may be zero. Channel
assignments are temporary and the Ellipse must periodically contact the WSDB to
refresh the channel list. The Ellipse must vacate a channel in-use immediately when a
WSDB database status update indicates the channel is no longer available. Channel
selection is performed in the Wireless Configuration screen.
If the sector controller can not contact and register with the WSDB server, it is not
allowed to transmit on any whitespaces channel. The subscriber is allowed to establish a
wireless connection with a sector controller to contact and register with the WSDB
server. If the WSDB channel list indicates the channel in-use is not available for the
location where the subscriber is installed, the subscriber notifies the sector controller and
stops transmitting on that channel. If required, this process is repeated once each hour.
