4.
Select
Monitor
function from the Measurement menu or click
to monitor the
energy throughput.
5.
Adjust the lower cassegrain for maximum energy using the up and down arrows of the
Correction
function.
Clicking
Zero
will move the cassegrain to the optimum position for an open beam
(suitable for very thin samples).

6.
Once the maximum energy through the window (or aperture) has been achieved, press
Halt
on the Measurement toolbar.
7.
Collect a background spectrum through this point on the window (or aperture) using the
correct aperture size as selected previously.
8.
Return the stage to the selected sample position, adjust the correction, and then record
the sample spectrum.
NOTE:
If a detector overload error is reported in the Status Bar when monitoring or
collecting data, then fit an attenuator to the external beam window of the
spectrometer. See
Fitting an Attenuator to the Spectrometer
, on page 41, for details.
This attenuator should be kept in place during data acquisition.
If the same window is used repeatedly for analysis, height correction of the lower cassegrain
need only be done once.
