Renewing the desiccant in the spare window
compartment
The windows in the sample compartment and the external ports can be exchanged for
windows made from another material.
CAUTION
To avoid serious damage, spare windows must be kept in a dry atmosphere,
such as in the desiccated compartment on top of the instrument.
If more than one sector on the desiccant indicator inside the compartment is
pink, change the desiccant.
Installing disposable desiccant in the window compartment
The desiccated compartment contains two disposable desiccant packs. You can purchase
disposable desiccant kits from PerkinElmer (part number N0171159). A kit contains two
packs of desiccant, and one kit is required.
1. Inspect the humidity indicator card in the plastic bags in which the spare desiccant
packs are packed. If the card is pink (indicating humidity in the bag) discard the
desiccant packs.
2. Open the desiccated compartment, and then remove the two thumb screws securing
the desiccant pack cover (Figure 34).

3. Lift off the desiccant pack cover and remove the desiccant packs noting how they were
installed.
4. Install two new disposable desiccant packs, or the rechargeable desiccant pack, and
then refit the desiccant pack cover.
5. Close the compartment.
The desiccant indicator should be completely blue, indicating satisfactory storage
conditions, within approximately half an hour.
