Assigning Symbolic Names

You may assign symbolic names to channel groups for ease in accessing remote locations. After
you assign symbolic names to channel groups, you no longer need to specify node, link, or channel
connections; you just use the symbolic name.

Refer to the DATAPHONE II ACCULINK Series 700 NETWORKER User’s Manual for more
information on dialing using a symbolic name. To assign a symbolic name to a channel group,
perform the following steps:

1. From the Configuration menu,

TYPE: 6 (Name Dialing)

PRESS: Enter

The system displays the prompt:

(Node 101) enter dial sequence >

2. TYPE: the dial sequence (node number/channel group number) to be assigned a name

The Name Dial Parameters screen appears.

PRESS: Enter

3. TYPE: 1

PRESS: Enter

The system displays the prompt:

(Node 101) enter name >

4. TYPE: the symbolic name for the dial sequence

The name can contain up to six alphanumeric characters. The first character in the name
must be a letter between A and Z.

PRESS: Enter

5. To save the parameters,

TYPE: S

PRESS: Enter

The Configuration menu appears.

6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for each symbolic name you want to define.

7. Disconnect the terminal or PC used to perform the configuration process.
